SEO or SMO… Huh?

Everybody knows what SEO stands for. ( or at least internet marketers know what is SEO )

SMO?

Social Media Optimization - SMO

This ties in very closely to Web2.0 phenomenon that is happening all over the internet. But what is the difference between SEO and SMO? SEO is basically get search engines to come to your site, fall in love with your site and return your web pages in their natural search engine results in order to get traffic.

SMO involves more of “socialising” and “sharing”. A approach that is more towards a “word of mouth” online. Hence SMO involves getting your website to be easily accessible, easily linked to or from for a reader as opposed to a bot.

In a nutshell, basic 5 rules by Rohit Bhargava are :

1.Increase your linkability

2. Make tagging and bookmarking easy

3. Reward inbound links

4. Help your content travel

5. Encourage the mashup
