Domains In Trouble - The Registerfly Saga
I hope that none of you guys have domains registered with Registerfly.
I have most of my domains registered with Registerfly. Not a wise move unfortunately. I have had some issues with their website and their customer service. The worst part is that I had made bulk purchases of some domains before and some of them were not available which means that I still have some money with them! ( those .info domains were real cheap, a steal in fact for $0.60 each )
Here’s what happened ( this is old news ) :

Scary? You bet! Imagine losing your domains especially those important ones which you have taken the trouble to build up!
I am now in the midst of transferring the important domains out.
And here’s a registrar taking advantage of this situation, smart move, Godaddy!

( ps. so if you have any registerfly domains, you should make use of this opportunity to transfer at a cheaper price!)
Another good registrar that I am using is namecheap.com ( so far no issue with them ). Now I am in the midst of transferring some of my websites over… keeping my fingers cross!
How do you transfer your domain? ( I can hear some of you ask… )
Step 1. Decide which registrar you want the domain to be transferred to.
Step 2. Check your current registrar to make sure that your domain name is not locked! In Registerfly case, you need to manually unlock the domain name. Just go to “Manage Domain” after you lock in, then click on the domain name and a page will be returned with a field called “Domain Status”. If it is locked, just click on “Locked” status and then uncheck the locked box and update. Remove the Protectfly too.
Step 3. Go to the Domain Contact information of the domain. Click on the “Configure” button.
Step 4. If you have unlocked the domain correctly, after you click on “Configure” button, you will be shown a page where you can edit your contact information. Do not edit. Instead, scroll to the bottom and look for “Authorization Code” field. Copy that code down. This is your EE code which is required for domain transfer.
Step 5. Go to the registrar which you wish to transfer the domain to. Most likely you will be at a page where you can key in the domain you wish to transfer. At one point, this registrar will ask you for the EE code which you have copied as above.
Step 6. Once you submit the above information, sit back and wait for the transfer to occur. In my case, my new registrar indicate that it will take up to 3 hours to transfer.
Keeping my fingers crossed here…
Here’s a cool and fun tool to use to gauge the quality of your website :

The estimated price of your website is based on the Alexa traffic, inbound links, indexed pages, PR etc. This is quite fun!
