Page Rank - Getting Into The Ranks

Page Rank. Everyone wants a page rank. What’s a page rank? This is a “rank” given by Google to determine how important and relevant your site is. Quote below is taken from Google website itself to explain what is page rank :

“…Important, high-quality sites receive a higher PageRank, which Google remembers each time it conducts a search. Of course, important pages mean nothing to you if they don’t match your query. So, Google combines PageRank with sophisticated text-matching techniques to find pages that are both important and relevant to your search. Google goes far beyond the number of times a term appears on a page and examines all aspects of the page’s content (and the content of the pages linking to it) to determine if it’s a good match for your query.

This is one indicator that everyone wants as big a number as possible. The higher the number, the more important is your site and Google will throw you up high in the natural search results that it returns.

How do you determine what Page Rank is your website? You can go to Google and key in “check page range” and you will find thousands of websites that provide free tools for you to use to determine the page rank.

For me, I love this nifty little add on tool for my firefox browser that does just that : SearchStatus

This addon will display the current website page’s Page Rank and Alexa ranking right on the right corner of your Firefox browser! (You can customise the location… left or right) No need to go punch in the website url in some other sites to find out. Cool eh? In an instant, I will be able to see how’s my websites doing by just visiting them.

( psst. I mean you should seriously think about switching to firefox browser with tons of great addons that you can use!
