The Tale Of Web Copywriting - Part 1

Web copywriting is a different ball game from the mainstream copywriting. Why?

In the online environment, most of the websites or webpages are found via a search engine. This means that the person who found your website is looking for specific information. Thus when you write for your webpage, your message to the reader must answer several questions that a reader has in his or her mind when they first visit your website. Some basic questions that might come to their minds include :

1. What am I doing here?
2. How do I do it?
3. What is in it for me?
4. Where do I go from here?

You must keep in mind that you probably going to have seconds to impress upon your visitors that your website is offering exactly what they are looking for.

Copywriting is really hard work and it is not easy! Sometimes you can spend hours just thinking for a headline and sometimes in a flash, you get inspirations for a killer headline. When I first started, I thought copywriting is not as hard as it seems. Just write some words and get the message across. Boy, I couldn’t be more wrong!

In order to be able to come up with a good ad, a copywriter needs to surround himself or herself with plenty of ads, books and own swipe files. A good copywriter usually collects good ads, interesting headlines and keeps them tuck under lock and key. It is these precious collection that can save a copywriter from writer’s block!

Thus I am at that stage that I will just “swipe” anything that caught my attention ( I use Firefox add ons to swipe these ads! ) to form my own collection. And I also subscribed to every well known copywriter and internet marketer that I know of. Some of them include Gary Halbert, Clayton Makepeace, Drayton Bird, Bob Bly just to name a few.

Not an easy road to take to try to learn copywriting but it is a start! I have just also joined Jo Han’s Copywriting For Rookies ( considered very cheap for a copywriting course… you should see the rest of the course by some of the other marketers… if you are interested, you have to visit his site ). It’s a pretty good course for anyone starting out on trying their hands on copywriting –> ME. I am on Day 2 already and I am feeling pretty much more knowledgeable than many out there already… hehe…

By the way, anyone gotten his new book, Recipe For Riches? I just got it. I will be doing a review on that in the another post!
