Simplified SEO – Part 2 On Page On Target!
Why are people so fixated on SEO?
Essentially the whole point of Search Engine is to get information for who? PEOPLE who are looking for information. Yes, us, human. Like me, I want to find out what is a “hairycoo” for example. So what is a hairycoo? Haha… ( see next post for answer then or like me, go google it )
Of course if your website is done with more better structure and more search engine friendly, them “spiders” will thank yu for making their job easier. ( these “spiders” are not your typical creepy crawlies… they are the smart scripts that google run to “crawl” your site, these are the good guys! )
Top 10 SEO On-Page Tips
10. First and foremost, most gurus and experts agree, try to AVOID JAVASCRIPTS ( or at least if you use them put the codes in a separate file )
9. No flash please, spiders cannot stomach them ( literally too… flashers get penalised in real life too! )
8. Spiders love words, words and more words. They “thrive” on content. So write on. With good content, please!
7. Meta tags passe? Nada… I am happy to report, at least 2 meta tags are still of importance. They are the keyword and description tag.
They look like this in your html source code –>
<meta name="description" content="This site is about yada. yada is good for you, you should yada!">
<meta name="keywords" content="yada, yadas">
First of all, description tags are important as they get shown on the SERPS ( Search Engine Results Pages ) and HUMAN reads them. So it is mighty important that you write a good description to get the humans to come to your site. Second is the keyword tag, though Google does not use them much ( this is what we are led to believe ), many other search engines still do use them.
6. How can one have a website without this? A title! Give it one that has the keyword that you are optimising for. Not too many please. Too much of any ( good or bad ) is BAD for you. In moderation, please.
5. What more html tags? Yessiree… the H1, H2 and more… However, usually having H1 tags and H2 tags are sufficient. What do you put there? Yes, yes, your keyword. And keep in mind… make your title readable, normal for a HUMAN to read! Spiders are smart and they are getting smarter…so go the human way and you will not be wrong!
4. Hmmm… what else does spiders like? They love bold keywords too! And maybe a touch of italics… yummy… so keep them fascinated with your content.
3. Did I tell you that spiders loves images too? Yeah, if you have images on your website, name them appropriately with some descriptive keywords. Ah… why do you do that? Well, this will help those who are sight challenged. They are using special tools to help them surf the internet and hence when they come across sites with images, they will know what images are showing even though they cannot see. ( of course it helps that we get to put keyword in those names too! )
2. Spiders may get lost. So how do we help them? Put a sitemap on!
1.
Little Miss Muffet,
Sat On Her Tuffet,
And Consistently Writes Her Blog.
Along Came Many Spiders,
Who Goes Through The Blog of Hers,
And Put Her Blog Pages Into The Index!
Spiders need to be fed regularly. So even if you go on vacation, remember to ask someone to feed them… ( Hence now you know why spiders love blogs… )
Watch out for Part 3… coming soon!
